The Director in the State and Local Tax, Credits and Incentives group is responsible for the delivery of a full range of Credits and Incentives consulting services for multiple clients in a wide variety of industries. Responsibilities include interacting closely with clients to provide innovative project consulting, project management, multi-state tax credit review and credit/incentive compliance expertise; developing and managing staff; working closely with partners and staff on client management, practice development and business development activities; and formulating and delivering innovative planning and tax savings strategies.

Job Duties:

- Oversee the efforts Credits and Incentives project services teams for client engagements; plan, execute, direct, and complete projects in a wide variety of industries; and market, sell, design, and implement innovative credits and incentive strategies for clients; and manage to budget.

- Manage, develop, train, and mentor staff on credits and incentive projects and assess performance for engagement and year-end reviews.

- Deliver a full range of credit and incentive services including assisting companies with negotiating location incentive packages, performing retroactive tax credit reviews, creation of economic and fiscal impact analysis reports, research, preparation of technical memorandums, drafting client correspondence, and counseling clients in defending against state/local incentive audits.

- Conduct primary and secondary review of incentive applications, credit and incentive compliance and credit claims for State and Local tax returns.

- Work with other SALT groups to identify other SALT service line opportunities including multi-state reviews that analyze income, franchise, sales and use, payroll, valorem taxes, and others to identify optimal filing options, exemptions, and corporate structures that can reduce the clients tax burden.

- Consult, work with, and service client to make recommendations on business and process improvement and serve as a business adviser to client.

- Other duties as assigned.

Education:

Bachelors degree in Accounting. CPA, Masters in Taxation, LLM in Taxation, or JD.

Experience:

A minimum of 8 years of progressive credits and incentives State and Local Tax consulting in public accounting or a combination of corporate and public accounting experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Broad exposure to State and Local Taxes including knowledge in State Income/Franchise Tax, Sales and Use Tax; must be eager to identify other opportunities and bring in the correct resources.

- Excellent negotiation skills

- Outstanding leadership, business development, recruiting, training, coaching, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

- Computer expertise including knowledge of tax software and technology.

- Ability to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites.
